The alternate double clusters crochet stitch is a gorgeous textured crochet stitch that is addicting to make!  This stitch is created by working cluster stitches that are also known as decrease stitches but we aren't actually decreasing to make the alternate double clusters crochet stitch.

One of my most favorite things about crochet, well I have a lot of favorite things that I love about crochet, but I am obsessed with crochet texture, the amazing ability to combine basic crochet stitches to create this gorgeous texture. I could crochet gorgeous texture all day long and the challenge of combining different crochet stitches to see what it may create. When you try that amazing texture with different yarn weights, colors, even trying it with variegated yarn will change the way the crochet stitch comes out and it's amazing!

  • Yarn: The stitch sample is made with Leither Co. Tropics (sport)
  • Hook Size: Leither Co. F - 3.75mm

Pattern Key

  • St/Sts: Stitch(es)
  • Ch: Chain
  • Dc: Single Crochet

Special Stitch:

  • Dc3tog (Double Crochet 3 Together): Yarn over, insert hook into next chain/chain 1 space, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops.  *Yarn over and insert hook into same chain/chain 1 space, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops; repeat from*, twice, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.


  • Chain 1 will NOT count as a stitch


  • Chain in Multiples of 2 for the base chain


Row 1: Dc3tog in the 4th ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, dc3tog in next ch; repeat from*, across.

Row 2: Ch 1 and turn, 1 dc in same st, dc3tog in next ch 1 sp, *ch 1, dc3tog in next ch 1 sp; repeat from*, across until the last st, dc3tog in last st.

Repeat Row 2 until desired length is reached.
