Cutest Witch Baby Crochet Pattern

Halloween isn't complete without the Cutest Witch Baby!  This set is super adorable and pretty simple to make!  You can also customize the set into any color scheme but the black, purple and green a great traditional witch color scheme.  Although this adorable witch baby doesn't look wicked, well maybe wickedly cute!  This pattern uses simple crochet stitches and you will be able to whip up this set for any new little baby girl and her first Halloween.

Materials

  • Yarn: Medium, Weight 4; Black, Purple and Green. Sample is made with Vanna’s Choice (Black, Eggplant and Sweet Pea)
  • Hook: K (6.50mm)
  • Tapestry Needle, Scissors and Measuring Tape

Sizing

  • Gauge: 12 Stitches and 10 Rows = 4”x4” (hdc)
  • These measurements are approximated, measure head to get accurate sizing needed.

Pattern Key

  • St/Sts: Stitch(es)
  • Sl St: Slip Stitch
  • Ch: Chain
  • Sc: Single Crochet
  • Hdc: Half Double Crochet
  • Dc: Double Crochet

Notes

  • Chain 1 will NOT count as a stitch.
  • Joining: When ending the rounds, you will join with a slip stitch into the 1st stitch (not the chain 1).



0-3 Months Beanie: (Circumference 13-14” and Height 5 - 5.5”)

You Need Your K Hook Black, Purple and Green Yarn

Start with Black Yarn, Make a Magic Ring,

Round 1: Ch 1, 3 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 3

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 6

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 9

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in the same st, *1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 14

Stop and weave in the starting tail, as you work farther down, you won’t be able to.

Rounds 5-8: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, join. - 14

Beanie Portion Starts Here: (When measuring the Beanie, start here)

Round 9: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, join. - 14

Round 10: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 21

Round 11: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 28

Round 12: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

Round 13: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, join. - 35

Repeat Round 13 until the beanie measures 2.5 inches tall, change to purple yarn and Repeat Round 13 for 3 rounds, then change to green yarn and move to green face.

Green Face

Round 1: (Work back loops ONLY) Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next st and each st around, join. - 35

Round 2: (Work in BOTH loops) Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, *1 sc in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from*, join. - 35

Repeat Round 2 until the green face measures 2 inches tall. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends, then move to with hat brim.

Go back to the last purple round and join in the front loop with black yarn.

Witch Hat Brim

Round 1: (Work front loops ONLY) Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in next st and each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 70

Rounds 2-4: (Work in BOTH loops) Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, join. - 70.  Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.



Hair

You Need Your K Hook, Purple Yarn and Scissors

Cut 35 strands of yarn approximately 30 inches long. Using the hook, pull 1 strand of yarn evenly through the first sc round posts of the “green face”. Each post will have “two” strands of yarn. Separate the hair evenly to the sides of the hat and braid until desired length is reached, then tie a knot at the bottom to secure braid in place and trim the hair.

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 14

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 21

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 28

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, join. - 41

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, join. - 41
