If you are looking for a fun and unique beanie to make then you must make the Double Dutch Beanie! This beanie is a fun stripped beanie that can be customized in any color scheme and it has fun loops going along up the beanie.  The Double Dutch Beanie is a fun and creative beanie but it does use simple crochet stitches to work it up, so if you know basic crochet then you will be able to whip up this beanie.  This crochet pattern includes sizes for everyone from newborn to large adult and can be made for girls and boys! Materials

  • Yarn: Medium, Weight 4; Your Color Choice. Sample is made with Vanna’s Choice (Oatmeal & Aqua)
  • Hook: K (6.50mm)
  • Tapestry Needle, Scissors and Measuring Tape

Sizing

  • Gauge: 12 Stitches and 10 Rows = 4”x4” (hdc)
  • These measurements are approximated, measure head to get accurate sizing needed.

Notes

  • Chain 1 will NOT count as a stitch.
  • Joining: When ending the rounds, you will join with a slip stitch into the 1st stitch (not the chain 1).
  • Chain loops will NOT count as sts.
  • Make sure to keep the chain 12 loops out of the way (they will curl into little circles) until it is time to join them.
  • Tension: Try to watch your tension with the sc’s, so your beanie doesn’t shrink.



ALL SIZES: (0-3M, 3-6M, 6-12M, 1-2Y, 3-10Y, Teen, Adult and Large Adult) You Need Your K Hook and Your Two Color Choices of Yarn.

Start with Color 1 - Make a Magic Ring,

Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 7

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 14

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 21

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 28

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

Round 6: Ch 1, 2 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 7 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 8 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 40

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next st, *ch 12, 1 sc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, until the last 2 sts, ch 12, 1 sc in last 2 sts, join. - 40

*Make sure you keep the ch 12 loops on the outside of the beanie*

Round 8: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next st and each st around, join. - 40

Round 9 & 10: Repeat Round 8

Change to Color 2 and Repeat Rounds 7-10

Repeat Rounds 7-10 alternating colors every 4 rounds, until the beanie measures 5 inches tall for newborn or 5.5 inches tall for 1-3 months, ending on Round 10.

Joining Loops: Starting with the first round of the ch 12 loops, loop the ch 12 loops together going straight down.  

Final Round: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, *insert hook through the last ch 12 loops and 1 sc in next 2 sts, (not working through the ch 12 loop) and 1 sc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, until the last 3 sts, insert hook through ch 12 loop and 1 sc in next 2 sts, (not working through the ch 12 loop) and 1 sc in last st, join. - 40
