Materials

  • Yarn: Medium, Weight 4; Your Color Choice. Sample is made with Vanna’s Choice (Aqua & Grey).
  • Hook: K (6.50mm)
  • Tapestry Needle, Scissors and Measuring Tape

Sizing

  • Gauge: 12 Stitches and 10 Rows = 4”x4” (hdc)
  • These measurements are approximated, measure head to get accurate sizing needed.

Notes

  • Chain 1 will NOT count as a stitch.
  • Joining: When ending the rounds, you will join with a slip stitch into the 1st stitch (not the chain 1).
  • In the sample, the color changes begin after the increases finish. For example Round 6 for 0-3 months.



ALL SIZES: (0-3M, 3-6M, 6-12M, 1-2Y, 3-10Y, Teen, Adult and Large Adult)

You Need Your K Hook and Your Color Choices of Yarn.

Start with Color 1 and Make a Magic Ring,

Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 7

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 14

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 21

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 28

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

CONTINUE TO THE SECTION OF THE SIZE YOU ARE MAKING



0-3 Months: (Circumference 13-14” and Height 5 - 5.5”)

Change to color 2 and begin alternating colors every round.

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, 1 dc in next st and each st around, join. - 35

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, *1 sl st next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from*, join. - 35

Repeat Rounds 6 & 7 until the beanie measures 5 inches tall for newborn or 5.5 inches tall for 1-3 months, ending on Round 7.  Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

3-6 Months: (Circumference 15-16” and Height 6”)

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 7 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 8 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 39

Change to color 2 and begin alternating colors every round.

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, 1 dc in next st and each st around, join. - 39

Round 8: Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, *1 sl st next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from*, join. - 39

Repeat Rounds 7 & 8 until the beanie measures 6 inches tall, ending on Round 8.  Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

6-12 Months: (Circumference 16-18” and Height 6.5”)

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, join. - 41

Change to color 2 and begin alternating colors every round.

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, 1 dc in next st and each st around, join. - 41

Round 8: Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, *1 sl st next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from*, join. - 41

Repeat Rounds 7 & 8 until the beanie measures 6.5 inches tall, ending on Round 8.  Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

1-2 Years: (Circumference 18-20” and Height 7”) 

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 42

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 19 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 45

Change to color 2 and begin alternating colors every round.

Round 8: Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, 1 dc in next st and each st around, join. - 45

Round 9: Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, *1 sl st next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from*, join. - 45
