Hope Beanie Crochet Pattern

The Hope Beanie is my go to beanie to work up quick with a beautiful texture. This beanie looks beautiful in every color and it can be made for anyone in any size.  If you are looking to expand your crochet skills slightly, this is a great beanie to tackle next!  If you can crochet simple stitches and are ready to learn one advanced crochet stitch than this beanie will be able to work up quickly for you!

Materials

  • Yarn: Medium, Weight 4; Your Color Choice. Sample is made with Vanna’s Choice (Dusty Rose)
  • Hook: K (6.50mm)
  • Tapestry Needle, Scissors and Measuring Tape

Sizing

  • Gauge: 12 Stitches and 10 Rows = 4”x4” (hdc)
  • These measurements are approximated, measure head to get accurate sizing needed.

Pattern Key

  • St/Sts: Stitch(es)
  • Sl St: Slip Stitch
  • Ch: Chain
  • Sc: Single Crochet
  • Hdc: Half Double Crochet
  • Dc: Double Crochet

Special Stitches:

  • FPDC (Front Post Double Crochet): Yarn over, insert hook under post of stitch, yarn over & pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through last 2 loops.

Notes

  • Chain 1 will NOT count as a stitch.
  • Joining: When ending the rounds, you will join with a slip stitch into the 1st stitch (not the chain 1).

ALL SIZES: (0-3M, 3-6M, 6-12M, 1-2Y, 3-10Y, Teen, Adult and Large Adult) You Need Your K Hook and Your Color Choice of Yarn.

Make a Magic Ring,

Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 7

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 14

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 21

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 28

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

CONTINUE TO THE SECTION OF THE SIZE YOU ARE MAKING

0-3 Months: (Circumference 13-14” and Height 5 - 5.5”)

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 dc in same, *1 fpdc in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from*, join. - 35

Repeat Round 6 until the beanie measures 5 inches tall for newborn or 5.5 inches tall for 1-3 months, then continue to trim.

Trim: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next st and each st around, join. - 35

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

3-6 Months: (Circumference 15-16” and Height 6”)

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 7 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 8 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 39

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 dc in same, *1 fpdc in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from*, join. - 39

Repeat Round 7 until the beanie measures 6 inches tall, then continue to trim.

Trim: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next st and each st around, join. - 39

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.



6-12 Months: (Circumference 16-18” and Height 6.5”)

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, join. - 41

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 dc in same, *1 fpdc in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from*, join. - 41

Repeat Round 7 until the beanie measures 6.5 inches tall, then continue to trim.

Trim: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next st and each st around, join. - 41

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

1-2 Years: (Circumference 18-20” and Height 7”)

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 42

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 19 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 45

Round 8: Ch 1, 1 dc in same, *1 fpdc in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from*, join. - 45

Repeat Round 8 until the beanie measures 7 inches tall, then continue to trim.

3-10 Years: (Circumference 19-20” and Height 7.5”) 

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 42

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in the next 5 sts, *2 hdc in the next st, 1 hdc in next 5 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 49

Round 8: Ch 1, 1 dc in same, *1 fpdc in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from*, join. - 49
