How To: Block Your Crochet Project With Flatter Spray

Blocking your crochet project can make a world of a difference and I am going to show you how to block your crochet project with flatter spray.  There are many ways to block your crochet or knit projects and how you block your project is completely up to you.  The three ways that you can block your crochet projects is by wet blocking, steam blocking and spray blocking.  For wet blocking you are creating a soapy bath and then submerging the crochet project into the soapy bath until it is nice and saturated and then letting it soak for 20-30 minutes and then wringing it out and blocking, you can check out that tutorial in more detail here.  Then there is steam blocking and that is by using steam from a steamer and blocking it.

Beanies that I Love!!

1.  Vintage Ripple Beanie   2. Morgan Beanie   3. Jelly Bean Beanie

Today though we are going to be talking about spray blocking and I love spray blocking because there is no heat involved and it is similar to wet blocking, you just get to skip to 20-30 minute wait time while it soaks. When you spray block a project, you will need a few items to get started.  You of course will need a crochet project, then you will need blocking mats, blocking pins and flatter spray.  Once you have these items, you will want to lay the crochet project on the mat and start spraying the flatter spray onto the crochet project until it is nice and saturated.  Once it is nice and saturated, you will want to use your blocking pins and start to shape and pin the project down to the mat.  But doing this you are telling the crochet project what shape and size you want it to be when it is dry.  Then you will let the project sit for about 24 hours or until the crochet project is 100% dry.  Then you will want to remove the pins and then your project is ready for whatever you are doing next to it, like joining it with another crochet square, wearing it, etc.
