Did you know that we have a monthly crochet
subscription box called the Leither Collection?
With the love of crochet and everything about it we started a crochet subscription box back in October 2018.
I have been designing crochet patterns since 2012! I love coming up with new designs and having a theme to create those designs. After my husband started making crochet hooks last year after my crochet injury, I became inspired to crochet even more!
Then I started hand dyeing yarn and designing based on the colorway and weight of the yarn, that is when the Leither Collection Subscription Box was born!

When I started planning this month's Leither Collection Subscription Box, I knew what the yarn was going to be. It was something that I wanted to do since I dyed up the original Avocado yarn on our dk base. When I saw how absolutely gorgeous it was, I knew I had to see this yarn on a tweed base. Oh my goodness I am so excited that I went with the tweed yarn and the avocado colorway!
Then I designed the rest of the collection off of that colorway. When I design the collections, it is either the yarn, stitch marker, funfetti wood that creates the theme.
This month, I knew that I was wanting to use the avocado colorway on the tweed base but I hadn't selected the theme. As I was looking for inspiration in our stitch marker samples, I came across this gorgeous stitch marker. The angel and it reminded me of the Willow Tree figurines and angels that have been collecting since 2011. Each piece in my collection all have a meaning and represent someone or something important to me. The "Angel of Freedom" in my collection is a new piece and the meaning is “Angel of Freedom holds a wire butterfly in her outstretched hands as a metaphor of freedom and independence, courage and confidence". To me this represents us going into the new year and remembering to let your dreams soar.
Now that I have told you the inspiration behind the Willow Collection, let's dive deeper to our December 2019 box!

Last month our yarn colorway was Turtle Bay and it consisted of orange, brown, green and a pink/purple shade and it had fun pops of color that I am still absolutely in love with! This month we have a different shade of green than what was in the yarn last month but this Avocado Tweed green is a semi solid green but it has various shades of green with a little hint of yellow. The tweed base in the yarn brings in additional colors as well, like black, brown and tan/cream and together the combination is a between all of these colors are absolutely stunning!
We haven't had a tweed base in our box since January 2019 and it was colorful tweed, this time we are going with a neutral tweed. This yarn is 85% superwash merino and 15% donegal nep and it has 231 yards and it is 100 grams! This may be my new favorite tweed to date!

Let's talk about these gorgeous crochet hooks! First let's talk about about the design which has beautiful curves to help reduce pressure points in your hand while crocheting. Those curves also bring out the colors and grain in the woods.
The yarn this month is a semi-solid green with hints of yellow and neutral accent. As you can see with the funfetti wood it has that gorgeous avocado green, yellow, brown and give it a little more color a little pop of a purple/pink.
The natural wood this month is a gorgeous bolivian rosewood which is a dark brown wood that has beautiful grain Both of the hooks in the same style are gorgeous and unique in their own way. Which one did you receive?
Since our theme this month is Willow and our inspiration was Willow Tree angels in my collection, the angel stitch marker with rhinestones was a perfect piece to complete the Willow Tree Collection.
Now lets dive into the crochet patterns! The first crochet pattern is the Willow Beanie, I have been wanting to make another beanie/hat for our subscription box for awhile. Beanies looks amazing in tweed, so it was a must. I have a thing about crochet texture and this beanie has gorgeous crochet texture. This beanie is created by using a combination of basic crochet stitches, with the different shades and tweed in the avocado brings out gorgeous stitch definition.
The second pattern is the Willow Boot Cuffs, this is another pattern that I have been wanting to design for a long time. Since we are getting ready to enter into the winter season, we need our legs/ankles/feet to be warm. This boot cuffs are very fashionable as well. The Willow Boot Cuffs start off the same way as the Willow Beanie with that gorgeous brimmed bottom but the texture is a little different but uses basic crochet stitches as well. The band on the bottom of the boot cuffs are stretchable. You can either put wear the cuff inside the boot or on the outside, completely up to you!

I hope that you are loving having two different crochet patterns to choose from each month! Often there is enough to make both projects but the Willow Beanie is a yarn eater. So, there is only enough yardage to make one beanie or a couple pairs of the boot cuffs.
We love putting together the boxes every month and adding every piece that goes into the box. We brainstorm the yarn colors and decide if the crochet hooks will completely coordinate or complement the yarn. Once I have the colors for the yarn chosen, then I decide what I am going to make. I let the colors of the yarn tell me what it wants to be! We have also loved finding coordinating stitch markers to complete the set.
If you received the December 2019 box I would love to know what your favorite item from the box was. If you didn't receive the box, would still love to know which item I showed you was your favorite. Remember you can now purchase this as the Willow Kit in our store.
