Leither Collection Subscription Box February 2020

Leither Collection Subscription Box February 2020

Did you know that we have a monthly crochet

subscription box called the Leither Collection?

With the love of crochet and everything about it we started a crochet subscription box back in October 2018.

I have been designing crochet patterns since 2012!  I love coming up with new designs and having a theme to create those designs.  After my husband started making crochet hooks last year after my crochet injury, I became inspired to crochet even more!

Then I started hand dyeing yarn and designing based on the colorway and weight of the yarn, that is when the Leither Collection Subscription Box was born!

You may know that it is the stitch markers that help bring the themes of the Leither Collection subscription boxes to life and this month is no exception.  When I came across the pink Cinderella carriage, I knew that would be the perfect theme for the month of February.  Even though the box was shipping out the day after Valentine's Day, I knew we could still do this pink/love theme.

I knew the theme would be creating with is "A Dream is a Wish" and knew that pink would be the primary color in our boxes.  As I was planning the boxes in more detail, I determined that the hook size would be a J (6mm) hook and once I had the hook size, I knew that we had to have a bulky weight yarn this month, it had been exactly a year since the last box had bulky yarn.  There is something so squishy and fun about bulky yarn.

This month I wanted a box that not only had lots of pink included in it but projects that worked up super quick and had beautiful texture!

There are two different and EXCITING things you will see beginning with our February 2020 Leither Collection Subscirption Boxes is that we have done away with our collection cards and brought in something even more amazing.  Our collection magazines!! Inside each magazine will not only show the theme as always, but everything we featured inside, printed crochet patterns in the magazine as well.  As we do more magazines we will add even more inside. The second thing that is new this month is that we have launched Leither Collection Crochet Academy!  I am so excited for this academy, because it is where as a subscription box member you will be able to have free access to the course that goes along with the collection.  If you are a visual learning or maybe you just need to see how one part is done or even if you want to PDF patterns instead, you can find all of that inside the course.  You can also find the unboxing video and it will be ready and inside the course when your box arrives, so you won't have to wait for unboxing day over at www.LeitherCollectionCrochetAcademy.com

Let's dive a little deeper into our February 2020 Leither Collection Subscription Box!

Last month our yarn colorway was our Wonderland yarn which had gorgeous light shades of blue and grey on our sock base.  This month we are shifting to bright pinks on our bulky base.  We are very excited to introduce our new cotton yarn as an option for our subscription boxes this month.  Over the past six months, I have received many emails and messages asking what the fiber content of our subscription box was because they were allergic to wool, well majority of our boxes include 100% superwash merino wool.  Because we wanted to be able to offer a subscription box to everyone that loved yarn, even if they were allergic to wool, we launched our cotton yarn.

The merino yarn this month was designed to created a pink ombre look, going from two shades of pink to a cream.  The Dream yarn is 100% superwash merino, 106 yards/100 grams.  Because the yarn is a bulky weight, you will see the colors change very quickly as you work up your next crochet project.

The cotton yarn this month is a solid bright pink color called hibiscus and it is a dream to work with too.  It is 100% pima cotton yarn has 120 yards/100 grams that is similar to a thick and thin yarn.

I worked up a gauge swatch for both the Dream and Hibiscus yarn and I found that the gauge swatch was exactly the same for both yarns, so you can use either yarn to work up both crochet patterns.

Let's talk about these gorgeous crochet hooks! First lets talk about the design of the hook this month, it has gorgeous details.  The hooks are always designed to not only have gorgeous details but the design helps reduce pressure points in your hand while crocheting! Those curves also bring out the colors and grain in the woods.

To make sure that we always have enough funfetti wood (colored wood) in stock for all of our subscription boxes that include funfetti we will now have two different wood colorways each month.  The primary color we wanted to have in both boxes was pink, so if you received a subscription box with funfetti wood you would of received the pink and grey or the pink and blue crochet hook.  Both beautiful hooks.

The crochet hook sizes this month are a J (6mm) crochet hook size, which is perfect for the bulky yarn!

The natural wood this month is a gorgeous canarywood which is primarily a yellow wood but it can have a dark orange shade too, a few of our canarywood hooks this month even had a pink colored halo to it.  All of the hooks are the same gorgeous style and unique in their own way.   Which one did you receive?

I know I keep talking about this stitch maker that brought the February 2020 A Dream is a Wish Collection to life and know it is time to show you!  This beautiful bright pink pumpkin carriage is what kicked off this box.

Last month we launched our Wonderland Collection, I loved the idea of creating an entire theme with our stitch markers and seeing the theme brought to life just a little more!  You now have the option to add the stitch maker collection to your subscription box over at www.leithercollection.com

Now lets dive into the crochet patterns!  This month, I wanted to create fun quick projects.  This first project is the Dream Wrap, it is a gorgeous textured wrap that is created by combining basic crochet stitches.  Once you complete your Dream Wrap, you then create a fun twist to complete the look.  The Dream Wrap is designed to be over sized and squishy wrap to wear with your hair up or down.

It is amazing how the same crochet pattern can look different using two different yarns.

The second crochet pattern in the Dream is a Wish Collection is the Dream Wine Cozy.  I have wanted to create a wine cozy for a long a time, I think it is something you can create and a keep as decor in your kitchen or the perfect way to give a bottle of wine as a gift.  I don't drink wine but it sure looks beautiful in a pink wine bottle with a pink wine cozy.  This crochet pattern is designed to be over sized on the wine bottle and be extra squishy!

Which crochet pattern is your favorite?  I loved creating both of these designs.

There is only enough yarn in the box to make one of the two projects, unless your did the add a skein option, then you can make both projects!

I hope that you are loving having two different crochet patterns to choose from each month!

We love putting together the boxes every month and adding every piece that goes into the box.  We brainstorm the yarn colors and decide if the crochet hooks will completely coordinate or complement the yarn.  Once I have the colors for the yarn chosen, then I decide what I am going to make. I let the colors of the yarn tell me what it wants to be! We have also loved finding coordinating stitch markers to complete the set.

If you received the February 2020 box I would love to know what your favorite item from the box was.  If you didn't receive the box, would still love to know which item I showed you was your favorite.  Remember you can now purchase this as the Dream is a Wish Kit in our store.
