Did you know that we have a monthly crochet subscription box? With the love of crochet and everything about it we started a crochet subscription box back in October 2018. I have been designing crochet patterns since 2012 and love coming up with new designs and having a theme to create those designs really inspires me. After my husband started making crochet hooks last year after my crochet injury, I became inspired to crochet even more! Then I started hand dyeing yarn and designing based on the colorway and weight of the yarn, that is when the Leither Collection Subscription Box was born!

Let's dive into the July 2019 box! Last month we went with a our adorable llama theme with our crochet pattern and I am still gushing over that squishy yarn. This month, we wanted to create a theme with our whole box and this month we wanted to create a dragonfly theme. All the coloring in our box this month had blue or green and both in it, the yarn, crochet hook (funfetti) and our stitch marker and of course the dragonfly yarn used to create the Dragonfly Slouchy Beanie and Dragon Table Runner. If you missed our July Box, you can now purchase it in our Dragonfly Kit.

Once I decided that I was going with dragonfly theme, I actually picked our stitch marker first and that is where the blue/green color combination came from. I then designed the yarn, I was designed to be a gorgeous shade of blues and green together but each skein of yarn took on it's own identity, some were more blue, some were more green and some were equal blue and green. It was amazing how every skein was truely unique in that no two skeins are exactly a like, that is the beautiful thing with hand dyed yarn and hand made products, each one takes on their own characterisctics. This yarn is worsted weight and it is 100% superwash merino that is 218 yards and 100 grams.

Lets talk about these gorgeous crochet hooks! The design is the same for both the Natural (bocote) and Funfetti (green, brown and cream) but these two different woods make them both look unique in their own way! Which one did you receive? I wanted to show you the gorgeous hooks in before and after photo, it's amazing how them being turned brings out the gorgeous grain and colors!
Last month we launched our new stitch marker collection with the elephant theme and with this month being our dragonfly theme, it of course had to be dragonfly stitch marker that matched the hand dyed yarn.
Now lets dive into the crochet patterns, the first one that I designed was the Dragonfly Table Runner, I wanted a simple chevron decorative piece, that was quick to work up. I couldn't put this crochet pattern, it was very additive to make. Normally I make crochet projects that don't require blocking but this one I knew it would, so I grabbed some of my soak and gave the table runner a 15 minute soak and then blocked it on the mat for 24 hours and I was amazed how the stitches became more defined and it grew 8 inches!!!

You don't have to block the Dragonfly Table Runner, but if you want your piece to magically grow, I would recommend it!
Something that I have been wanting to do for awhile for our Leither Collection Subscription Box is offer two crochet patterns in the box, so that you can have two different crochet patterns to choose from! Since the Dragonfly Table Runner worked up super quick, I thought this would be the perfect month to design another crochet pattern, so meet the gorgeous Dragonfly Slouchy Beanie, this beanie has all the design elements that I love about a beanie, a gorgeous texture and a brimmed beanie. To create this beanie, you will want to go down several crochet hook sizes to get that snug fit. But included in the pattern is an alternative simple brim as well.

We love putting together the boxes every month, it is a lot of fun to put together every piece that goes into the box. We brainstorm what colors we want the yarn to be and if the crochet hooks will completely coordinate or complement the yarn. Once I have the colors for the yarn chosen, then I decide what I am going to make, I let the colors of the yarn tell me what it wants to be! We have also loved finding coordinating stitch markers to complete the set.
If you received the June 2019 box I would love to know what you favorite item from the box was your favorite. If you didn't receive the box, would still love to know which item I showed you was your favorite and remember you can now purchase this as the Llama Lovey Kit HERE.
