Materials

  • Yarn: Medium, Weight 4; Blue, White and Red. Sample is made with Vanna’s Choice (Colonial Blue, White and Scarlet)
  • Hooks: I (5.50mm) & K (6.50mm)
  • Tapestry Needle, Scissors and Measuring Tape

Sizing

  • Gauge: 12 Stitches and 10 Rows = 4”x4” (hdc with K Hook)
  • These measurements are approximated, measure head to get accurate sizing needed.

Pattern Key

  • St/Sts: Stitch(es)
  • Sl St: Slip Stitch
  • Ch: Chain
  • Sc: Single Crochet
  • Hdc: Half Double Crochet
  • Dc: Double Crochet

Notes

  • Chain 1 will NOT count as a stitch.
  • Joining: When ending the rounds, you will join with a slip stitch into the 1st stitch (not the chain 1).



0-3 Months Beanie: (Circumference 13-14” and Height 5 - 5.5”)

You Need Your K Hook and Blue Yarn

Make a Magic Ring,

Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 7

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 14

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 21

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 28

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, join. - 35

Repeat Round 6 until the beanie measures 5 inches tall for newborn or 5.5 inches tall for 1-3 months.  Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

Star

You Need Your I Hook and White Yarn

Make a Magic Ring,

Round 1: Ch 1, 10 hdc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 10

Round 2: *Chain 5, sl st in 2nd chain from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 dc in last ch, skip next hdc, sl st in next hdc; repeat from*, until you have 5 points.

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends, leaving a long tail to sew onto beanie.

Tushy Cover: (6 ½ inch diameter)

You Need Your K Hook and Red and White Yarn

Start with Red Yarn and Make a Magic Ring,

Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 7

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 14

You are now going to alternate between white and red yarn every round.

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 21

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 28

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 42

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in the next 5 sts, *2 hdc in the next st, 1 hdc in next 5 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 49

Round 8: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 6 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 6 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 56

Round 9: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 5 sts; repeat from*, ending with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 66
