Shh....don't wake the sleeping Pig Baby!  The Pig Baby crochet pattern is a fun but simple crochet pattern to make. This baby crochet pattern is an adorable squishy plush prop.  The top is a bonnet, so it will slide on very easily and the ties even have a little curl. The set is simple so the bonnet will only need adorable ears and a little snout. Then on the tushy cover there is an adorable curly tail.  If you know basic crochet skills then you will be able to whip up the Pig Baby in now time.

Materials

  • Yarn: Chunky, Weight 5; 2 Shades of Pink (light and dark). Sample is made with Loops and Threads Charisma (Think Pink & Fuchsia)
  • Yarn: Medium, Weight 4; Black.  Sample is made with Vanna’s Choice (Black)
  • Hooks: J (6.00mm) & K (6.50mm)
  • Tapestry Needle, Scissors and Measuring Tape

Sizing

  • Gauge: 8 Stitches and 8 Rows = 4”x4” (hdc with K Hook)
  • These measurements are approximated, measure head to get accurate sizing needed.

Pattern Key

  • St/Sts: Stitch(es)
  • Sl St: Slip Stitch
  • Ch: Chain
  • Sc: Single Crochet
  • Hdc: Half Double Crochet

Special Stitches:

  • Dc2tog (Double Crochet 2 Together): Yarn over, insert hook into stitch and yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over and insert hook into next st, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over and pull through last three loops on hook.

  • Chain 1 will NOT count as a stitch.
  • Joining: When ending the rounds, you will join with a slip stitch into the 1st stitch (not the chain 1).



0-3 Months Bonnet: (Circumference 13-14” and Height 5 - 5.5”)

You Need Your K Hook and Light Pink Yarn

Start with Black Yarn, Make a Magic Ring,

Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 7

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 14

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 21

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 28

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, do NOT join. - 35

Round 6: Ch 1 and turn, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, do NOT join. -35

Repeat Round 6 until the bonnet measures 5 inches tall for newborn or 5.5 inches tall for 1-3 months.  Do not fasten off and continue to final row and ties.

Final Row with Ties: Ch 21, 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across back to bonnet, 1 sc in next st and each st across to the other side.  Ch 21, 1 hdc in 2nd st from hook and each ch across.

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.



Pig Ears (Make 2)

You Need Your J Hook and Light Pink Yarn

Leaving 8-inch-tall, Chain 5

Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next st and each st across. – 4

Rows 2 – 4: Ch 1 and turn, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st across. – 4

Row 5: Ch 1 and turn, dc2tog same st and next st, dc2tog next two stitches. - 2

Trim: Ch 1, 1 sc in next st and each st around, join.

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends, leaving a long tail to sew the ears on. See photos for placement.

You Need Your J Hook and Dark Pink Yarn

Make a Magic Ring

Round 1: Ch 1, 9 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 9

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in each st around, join. - 9

Fasten off and wave in any loose ends, leaving a long tail to sew on.  See photos for placement.

Pig Tail

You Need Your K Hook and Light Pink Yarn

Chain 15

Row 1: 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next st and each st across. - 14

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends, leaving a long tail to sew the tail onto the center of the tushy cover.  If the tail doesn’t curl up on its own, roll it up and it will curl.
