Spiral Twist Beanie Crochet Pattern

The Spiral Twist Beanie is a gorgeous textured beanie to make and is addicting too.  To create this beanie it does have an advanced crochet stitch but don't worry I explain how to work it.  This texture is a favorite of mine and it creates a unique look.  Unique looking beanies are a favorite of mine, are they are a favorite of yours?  Jump out of the box and try something new and that is what you can do with the Spiral Twist Beanie! Materials

  • Yarn: Medium, Weight 4; Your Color Choice. Sample is made with I Love This Yarn (Turquoise)
  • Hook: K (6.50mm)
  • Tapestry Needle, Scissors and Measuring Tape

Sizing

  • Gauge: 12 Stitches and 10 Rows = 4”x4” (hdc)
  • These measurements are approximated, measure head to get accurate sizing needed.

Special Stitches: 

  • FPDC (Front Post Double Crochet): Yarn over, insert hook under post of stitch (from right to left), yarn over & pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through last 2 loops.

Notes

  • Beginning chain 1 will NOT count as a stitch.
  • Joining: When ending the rounds, you will join with a slip stitch into the 1st stitch (not the chain 1).
  • Chain 1 will count as a stitch when working the crisscrosses.



ALL SIZES: (0-3M, 3-6M, 6-12M, 1-2Y, 3-10Y, Teen, Adult and Large Adult)

You Need Your K Hook and Your Color Choice of Yarn.

Make a Magic Ring,

Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 7

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 14

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 21

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 28

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

0-3 Months: (Circumference 13-14” and Height 5 - 5.5”)

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 42

Round 7: Ch 1, skip this st and next st, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, 1 dc in same st as the ch 1, *skip next 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, 1 dc in 1st st just skipped, repeat from*, do not join. - 42

You will now be working in continuous rounds!!!

Round 8: 1 sc in all sts and ch 1 sps, do NOT join. - 42

Round 9: *Skip next 2 sc, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, 1 fpdc around dc below the 1st sc just skipped; repeat from*, do not join. - 42

Repeat Rounds 8 & 9 until the beanie measures 5 inches tall for newborn or 5.5 inches tall for 1-3 months, ending on Round 9, then continue to final round.

Final Round: (Loosely): Join, sl st in next st and each st around, join. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

3-6 Months: (Circumference 15-16” and Height 6”)

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 42

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 19 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 45

Round 8: Ch 1, skip this st and next st, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, 1 dc in same st as the ch 1, *skip next 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, 1 dc in 1st st just skipped, repeat from*, do not join. - 45

You will now be working in continuous rounds!!!

Round 9: 1 sc in all sts and ch 1 sps, do NOT join. - 45
