Materials

  • Yarn: Medium, Weight 4; Sample made with Vanna’s Choice (Aqua & White)
  • You will work the beanie using 2 strands of yarn at once.
  • Hooks: N (9.00mm)
  • Tapestry Needle, Scissors and Measuring Tape

Sizing

  • Gauge: 8 Stitches and 8 Rows = 4”x4” (hdc) using N Hook
  • These measurements are approximated, measure head to get accurate sizing needed.

Notes

  • Chain 1 will NOT count as a stitch.
  • Joining: When ending the rounds, you will join with a slip stitch into the 1st stitch (not the chain 1).
  • Working the pattern with two colors: You will change colors when working the chains only in the final rounds. Change colors in the last step of the last hdc before the chains and to change the color back you will change in the first step of the first hdc.



ALL SIZES: (0-3M, 3-6M, 6-12M, 1-2Y, 3-10Y, Teen, Adult and Large Adult)

You Need Your N Hook and Yarn Colors of Your Choice (Using 2 Strands at Once).

Start with Color 1, Make a Magic Ring,

Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. - 7

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 14

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 21

Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 28

CONTINUE TO THE SECTION OF THE SIZE YOU ARE MAKING       



0-3 Months: (Circumference 13-16” and Height 5 or 5.5”)

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, join. - 28

Repeat Round 5 until the beanie measures 4 inches tall for a newborn or 4.5 inches tall for a 1-3 months.

Final Rounds: (You will change to color 2 just for the chains, then back to color 1)

Round 1: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 10 sts, ch 11, skip 7 sts, 1 hdc in the last 10 sts, join. - 21 sts & 11 chs

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 10 sts, ch 12, skip the chains below, 1 hdc in the last 10 sts, join. - 21 sts & 12 chs

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 10 sts, ch 13, skip the chains below, 1 hdc in last 10 sts, join. - 21 sts & 13 chs

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.  Then using a long piece of yarn, you are now going to join the chain rows together.  Tie front center of the last round of the beanie and all of the chains together and tie 3-4 knots to secure the chains.  Optional add button. 

3-6 Months: (Circumference 15-16” and Height 6”)

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, join. - 35

Repeat Round 6 until the beanie measures 5 inches tall.

Final Rounds: (You will change to color 2 just for the chains, then back to color 1)

Round 1: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 12 sts, ch 12, skip 9 sts, 1 hdc in the last 13 sts, join. - 26 sts & 12 chs

Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 12 sts, ch 13, skip the chains below, 1 hdc in the last 13 sts, join. - 26 sts & 13 chs

Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 12 sts, ch 14, skip the chains below, 1 hdc in last 13 sts, join. - 26 sts & 14 chs

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.  Then using a long piece of yarn, you are now going to join the chain rows together.  Tie front center of the last round of the beanie and all of the chains together and tie 3-4 knots to secure the chains.  Optional add button. 

6-12 Months: (Circumference 16-18” and Height 6.5”) 

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 7 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 8 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 39

Round 7: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st and each st around, join. - 39

Repeat Round 7 until the beanie measures 5.5 inches tall.

Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 35

Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. - 42
